Moving to a new city? Do not settle for the first PG you find. Use our 15-point checklist to evaluate safety, food, amenities, and value.
Choosing the right PG can make or break your experience in a new city. Rush the decision and you might end up locked into a bad contract. Take your time and use this checklist to find a place you will actually enjoy calling home.
Safety Checks
Is the building in a well-lit, safe locality? Are there CCTV cameras in common areas? Is there a security guard or gated entry? Does the owner conduct tenant verification?
Amenities to Verify
Is Wi-Fi included and what is the speed? Is the room AC or non-AC? Are bathrooms shared or attached? Is there a laundry facility? Is there a generator for power cuts?
Food Questions
Is food included in the rent? Are vegetarian and non-vegetarian options available? How many meals are provided per day?
Financial Clarity
What is included in the rent — electricity, water, maintenance? How much advance deposit is required and is it refundable? Is there a signed rental agreement?
Red Flags
Avoid any PG that refuses to show you the room before taking advance, does not provide a written agreement, or has no clearly stated refund policy.
